Sam Neill je rođen 14.10.1947. godine u Sjevernoj Irskoj kao dijete vojnika. Ovaj glumac ima diplomu engleske književnosti, a bavio se i filmskom režijom. U filmski opus Sama Neilla spadaju filmovi 'Piano', zatim 'Jurski park' te Lov na Crveni oktobar. Sam je odigrao i jednu od glavnih ulogu u popularnoj seriji 'Tudori'.
Sam je tri puta bio nominiran za Zlatni globus: za ulogu u seriji 'Merlin' iz 1999. godine, za ulogu u 'One Against the Wind' 1992. godine te za ulogu u 'Reilly: Ace of Spies' 1985. godine.
Sam se bavi i vinarstvom, a naziv njegova crnog Pinota je Two Paddocks.
